My Go-To Sunday Prep Checklist (Free Download)

If you’ve ever woken up on a Monday already feeling behind, you’re not alone. Mondays used to be pure chaos in our house — missing shoes, no clean lunchboxes, last-minute permission slips, and me chugging cold coffee wondering how we were already off-track.

That all changed when I started consistently following a simple Sunday Prep routine that helps me reset our home and our minds before the week begins. It’s now one of my favorite weekly rituals, and today I’m sharing exactly what’s on my Sunday Prep Checklist (plus a free printable download so you can start your own).

Why a Sunday Prep Routine Works

When you take a little time on Sunday to reset, you’re giving yourself a head start on the week ahead — not just logistically, but mentally too.

A good Sunday routine helps you:

  • 🧺 Cut Monday morning chaos in half
  • 🍎 Simplify meals and morning routines
  • 🧘‍♀️ Start the week with less stress and more focus
  • 🏡 Keep your home feeling tidy and intentional

It’s one of the easiest home routines ideas to implement — and the results are instant.

My Sunday Prep Philosophy

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s peace.

I’m not scrubbing floors or color-coding closets every Sunday. I’m just focusing on small, high-impact habits that set us up for success over the next 5-7 days. Think of it as your quick home and brain reset before the week begins.

You can customize this routine to fit your family’s energy level, season of life, or weekend schedule — whether you’re home all Sunday or squeezing this in between soccer practice and dinner at grandma’s.

My Sunday Prep Checklist

🧺 1. Clean Sheets and Catch Up on Laundry

If you don’t have a laundry rhythm yet, Sunday is a great day to reset your system. Wash, fold, and actually put away that last load so everyone starts the week with clean clothes. (Yes, even the toddler socks.) If you already have a great laundry rhythm (like my recommended one-load-a-night), I recommend using Sunday to strip the beds, wash the sheets, and go to bed with cozy and clean fresh sheets!

🗓️ 2. Review the Week Ahead

  • Take 5–10 minutes to glance at your calendar.
  • What appointments, events, or school projects are coming up?
  • Who needs to be where and when?
  • What micro-tasks do I need to write down and schedule to prepare for these events?

This helps prevent those “wait, that’s today?” surprises midweek. If you use a shared digital calendar or a family wall planner, update it now so everyone’s in the loop. It’s one of the best simple ways to tidy your house and your mind at the same time.

🍎 3. Meal Plan, Grocery Shop and Prep

Full disclosure, I do very little meal prep ahead of any given day, however I am a literal meal planning pro. Because I plan our family’s entire dinner menu a month in advance, Sunday is just for a quick check in. Having just reviewed our calendar, I take a look at the dinners I had planned for this week and make any adjustments if needed.

  • Create or review meal plan
  • Make grocery list
  • Scan pantry first, to avoid buying unnecessary item!
  • Wash, chop, and prep fruits and vegetables

🎒 4. Get School Ready

Avoid the Monday morning sprint and stress, by preparing everything Sunday evening. Depending on the age of your kids, this is a great area for them to take ownership of!

  • Get out backpacks and put near door
  • Ensure paperwork, homework, permission slips and planners are inside
  • Find a clean water bottle
  • Portion and set aside 5-10 snacks for the full week
  • Get lunch box and any inserts ready
  • Lay out 5 school outfits

🏡 5. Restock Household Essentials

Do a quick sweep through bathrooms, kitchen, and laundry areas, to make sure main rooms are well stocked with:

  • Toilet paper
  • Paper towels
  • Dishwasher pods
  • Laundry detergent
  • Diapers/wipes if needed

It’s a tiny task that saves you from those late-night “how are we out of this again?!” moments.

💌 6. Set Weekly Intentions

Before you call your prep done, take a minute to reflect. Ask yourself:

  • How do I want to feel this week?
  • What do I want more of? Less of?

This isn’t about productivity — it’s about presence. Your home should support how you want to feel, not just what you need to do.

Final Thoughts

The Sunday Prep Checklist isn’t about doing it all — it’s about doing what matters most before the week begins.

If you give yourself even 30 minutes of prep on Sunday, you’ll start your week ahead instead of behind. Your home will feel lighter, your mornings will flow smoother, and your mindset will shift from survival to intentional.
